Publisher description

The purpose of this thesis is to compare Hillary Rodham Clinton's 2008 Democratic National Convention speech endorsing Barack Obama and Sarah Palin's 2008-vice presidential nomination acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. Through the use of Dow and Tonn's (1993) theory of political feminine style, this analysis argues that political feminine style is a useful tool for analyzing the words of female political rhetors and suggests implications of the study of speeches by such rhetors. Through the examination of artifacts, this analysis concluded that Clinton was able to better exemplify the use of Dow and Tonn's theory of political feminine style in a more pervasive manner than Palin. In addition, this analysis will evaluate Clinton and Palin's rhetoric as well as the overriding theme, or themes, of the two speeches
