Publisher description
This revised dissertation examines the job satisfaction of women scientists in academic institutions. Women are seriously underrepresented in American academic science, and are typically in a disadvantageous position relative to their male colleagues in many extrinsic aspects of their employment situation. Women scientists in 4-year institutions report a significantly lower level of satisfaction than their male colleagues. Busenberg uses data from the National Survey of Postsecondary Faculty to measure women scientists' satisfaction with specific aspects of their professional life to attempt to identify those elements of their work life which are most significant in predicting job satisfaction
